I can’t believe that it has been 2 months since I have last blogged. Time sure does fly. I have had a great time decorating my cottage for the holidays. I really wanted something different in my new home so I spent several months remaking my Christmas decor to fit my cottage and my new-found happiness. It’s amazing what a little paint, glitter and glue can do to make a huge impact. So if you want a fresh new look for your home this holiday season for pennies read on . . .
Welcome to Shabby Lane Cottage! The entrance to the cottage is a fun welcoming sight. I am totally a blue and white girl and I really embraced it this year for Christmas. Now, there is a color that I do not use very often in my decor and that is red, I have added touches of it through out my home this year. (It’s a long story why red is not one of my favorite colors)
If there was a little snow it would make this front entrance so charming but I am not rushing the winter season. lol Today’s post will be about decor for your doors that welcome visitors in.
Hanging on the shutter by my front door is this glittered pine cone swag. It was a really fun project and didn’t take much time at all to complete. I had everything on hand to make it so it didn’t cost me a cent.
This is my front entry I have hung a reindeer feed sack filled with white pine boughs, feathers, cotton stems and a cuddly bear. I added some miniature snowflake lights to brighten it up.
As you walk through my front door this little antique chest is what you see first. This is the simplest Christmas tree ever. I just stuck a discarded branch from a bush and put it in a pot. I used aqua and green tone ornaments on it with some starry twinkle lights. It sets the perfect mood for my lovely Madonnas.
A mint colored net wreath adds to the softness of the vignette. When it’s dark it really looks beautiful.
On my coat closet door I hung a large white gathering basket filled with lovely fragrant eucalyptus in blue and green then hung a wooden glass glittered star from it.
This is the outside door by the car port. I dipped into my yarn stash this year and made a huge dent. lol I made some large pom poms and glued them on a floral foam wreath form.
On the inside of the same door I made a yarn ball wreath and added some blue knitting needles to it. This hangs in my studio area of the cottage which adds to the theme of the room.
This wool stocking hangs on my bathroom door and I have filled it with some lovely vintage decor. I think that hanging a little decor on a door really gives a welcoming feeling to our visitors.
I will return soon with more of my Christmas tour!
XOXO Jo

So good to hear from you in a blog! The yarn ball wreath is about the cutest thing I’ve seen and so creative. The branch tree with lights and Madonna creates a serene vignette upon entering. Love it all! I am getting my Christmas decorations out today, so thanks for the inspiration once again!
