Welcome to Shabby Lane Cottage Kitchen Tour

I am so happy to welcome you to my sweet little cottage on a very shady lane on the side of the mountain overlooking the Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island.

I a wake every morning and throw open the windows so that I can see the beautiful view that the dear Lord lead me to. I am so grateful that this is the end of a long and trying time for me.  I now look at life through open windows and see the sun come streaming through them and feel nothing but God’s tender mercies.

For one reason or another it has taken me so long to show you my cottage and as you can see I have named it Shabby Lane Cottage . I will be showing you the outside of the cottage in the next post. I forgot to take those pictures. Crazy me! lol

Here is the view from my back windows. The one on the left is from my bedroom window and it overlooks the church house where I attend. The photo on the right is from my kitchen window over the sink and you can sort of see the Antelope island  to the very back. It was pretty cloudy the day I took these photos. I have a wonderful deck out back as you can see from the picture on the right. The sunsets are just amazing sitting here.

I decided to show you a room at a time so that you didn’t get overwhelmed looking at all the rooms at once. I thought that starting with the kitchen would be the best.

This is the kitchen as you walk through the hall way. It is situated in the back of the house. This house has all been remodeled. The cabinets, appliances, windows, paint and crown moldings are all new. I fill a little overwhelmed with so many dark cabinets if I had my way I would replace the upper cabinets with shelving and spray all the cabinets white. But I don’t so I will be thrilled with what I have. The flooring is older but it is light and does not show the dirt. My little farm-house table fits just perfect up against the wall here.

As you can see I have lots of storage space and plenty of counter space for baking.

I used the curtain that I had made for my work bench from the other apartment and turned them into curtains for the kitchen window. It gave a lot of fun color to the room.

Adding a shelf and shutters to the window gave me a place to put some of my cute collectables.

Just before I moved I had purchased some tole trays from a wonderful Shabby Chic shop on Etsy called Vintage White Cottage . I love the colors and the chippiness that they brought to the kitchen.

This picture shows the kitchen hall way where I was able to but my primitive cupboard and a shelf. I repainted the cupboard in a pale pink and added two blue shutters next to them.

I had some blue and white striped vintage wallpaper and used it for the backdrop for each shelf. I decided to sit the cupboard on the floor to give it a little different look.

I bought this pink and brown bread box from the Vintage White Cottage as well. It stores all of my cookie cutters.

The hallway to the kitchen is very wide so it allowed me to put some decor around it.

hutch and door

This door leads out to the car port, next to it there was plenty of room for my hutch. I am shooting this photo from the front door.  I will be painting the hutch soon because I tipped it over and chipped it up pretty bad so I need to glue it back together. The hutch was clear full of all of my beautiful whiteware and I broke several lovely pieces. I am pretty good at that. lol  I have to laugh because three men from my neighborhood helped me move and they did it in two hours and did not break one thing. They were amazing!

I hope that you enjoyed the kitchen tour and I will be back soon with more. I want to thank everyone who helped with naming the cottage they were all very original and helped me to find the name that was just right for this sweet place.

  1. Your new kitchen is looking amazing – you must be so happy with your new nest and that you can have so much fun decorating the new space. So sorry you had an accident and broke some of your treasures, but you will now have the pleasure of searching for the just the right pieces to replace them.

  2. Jo it is so cute and cozy. Love your new kitchen and I bet you love all the natural light you get in your sweet cottage now. Love the view from your place too very pretty. So happy you are moved in and making this place your own. LOL I would be right there with you with taking down the upper cabinets and painting the lowers white!!!! They look great just the way they are and they can give you more storage. Super sweet place.

  3. Love the name you picked for your new nest. The kitchen is adorable and the curtains add just the right color scheme for your collectibles. The aqua stand mixer is to die for; I have been thinking about you and wondering how things were going so I was happy to see your post today. Can’t wait to see the rest of your nest!

  4. It’s so much fun to see your whole kitchen, since we have always seen bits and pieces. As for someone who just ditched her all wood kitchen last year—I would go with your heart, take the doors off the uppers and tack white/colored paper in the back..and have open shelving. You can easily put the doors back up if you resell, or change your mind. You can have the best of both worlds as a little bit of wood goes a long way. Grins, love all your collections/and antiques,Sandi

  5. Jo, I am so happy for you! It’s so nice to get settled in your new place. You have certainly made it your own. So many cute things! Sorry that you broke some of your white ironstone. I have a few pieces, but don’t run across it often. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

    • Dear Nancy, you are so intuitive. I am happy and I think that it is because I have gone without for so long. I try really hard to count my blessing what ever situation that I am in. It’s like my eyes are finally open to the good things in life that I have missed. Thank you for your visit.

  10. I love your new kitchen. You have the ability to turn an apartment into a shabby chic cottage! I was thinking about your comment on the kitchen cabinets being too brown and I wanted to mention that you could change the hardware and put a little more color to them. That would jazz them up. I love your blog and I’m so glad that you are back!
