Isn’t he beautiful! He will be flying to your home soon!
On to the business at hand. I want to share some of the very easy peasy Valentine decor ideas that I use in my home. All of the items that I am sharing I already have had on hand. I’ve used many of them for Christmas decor, or just everyday decor. All I did was shop my house for them.
I have been hording a huge bag of dried roses. Then I thought why not make some wreaths out of them. These were the simplest thing to make. I took old wire coat hangers, and strung the rose heads on them, I twisted the two ends of the wire together and added lace. I could have as easily made a heart but I liked the look of the circle. The one above is has a bit like potpourri.
Here is a larger one done in pink roses.
A white one hangs on my reindeer.
If I had more wire hangers and roses I think that I would have made them all day. Some of the roses were very fragile so be careful if you decide to make one they are pretty fragile.
As I was shopping my home for Valentine decor I came upon my old paperback book (I was gifted this from Santa when I was a young girl) “LOVE STORY” I add some twine on it and now its an art piece!
I’ve had this old wooden heart for years. After my grandmother passed I was given some old scrape books of hers and in one of them I found this card that was given to her by my parents for Valentines Day in 1950, it even had writing on it by my Mom. I took it apart and glued it on the front of the heart with hodgepodge. Now its preserved for ever.
My rusty bucket hold a piece of burlap with a few wooden hearts that my son Dane made for me when he was in Shop. I have used these hearts forever and this year I painted them and added some pretties.
Here one hangs from a basket.
I added some lovely sheet music.
Tucking in a wooden heart into a display makes any display become a Valentine vignette.
Here I just shopped my jewelry box to decorate one of my manikin’s.
I scattered a few great rusty hearts around.
I made these piggies when I was 18! They hang next to a tissue paper heart garland.
Last but not least I put out some scrabble tile words that describe Valentines Day. This one sits on my work bench, reminding me of my passion for decor, and family!
Have fun with Valentine decor it really doesn’t take much to add this lovely holiday into your home.
Winter can be a really tough time for me.
When it is snowing and the fire is lit and I’m sitting in my robe with a great cup of hot coco I am as happy as can be. But when the winter doldrums hit I can really feel miserable. That’s when I say “okay Jo it’s time to do something you enjoy that will change your attitude.” That’s when I start going through my crafting supplies to see what I can create. Then I start to feel much better, and I get a little giddy. LOL
Being that I am single and do not have a bow, Valentine’s Day is not one of the holidays that I really enjoy. But I do have family and they are my biggest love so I do some decorating.
This gives me a chance to use my newly reorganized work bench. Take a look.
This is where I create. Under the curtain are rows of drawers that hold my crafting supplies. Since moving into this apartment I have had to be very creative with my space. To the far left of my work bench is my sitting room/TV room, on the right is my dinning area, and across from my work bench sits my hutch. Everything is compact and it will be that way until I have my own home again.
As you can see I have hung my favorite saying, it helps me create. The top of my bench is made from a hollow core door, covered in vinyl. This gives me lots of room to create. The only item that I don’t have a home for is my sewing machine Molly, but someday I will, I love keeping her out, we have been friends for over 40 years.
Everything on my bench has a double purpose, this basket not only holds my crochet thread but my lamp as well.
I had this book-case and ask my son if he would like it and he said “YES”. But if you snooze you loose, around me so now I use it on my work bench to hold craft items.
The top shelf holds many loving tools that were my Dad’s and an old sketch of Rome.
The second self holds glitter and pencils. I’m a glitter horde so I have much more down under the curtain. These are my favorites.
The bottom shelf has pens, scissors, thread and an old button tin and covered note books that I use a lot.
These are more great notions that my Dad had, though the thread is quite brittle now I still like to look at it, it gives me inspiration.
Now I am ready to get to work on some of those Valentine projects that I have been wanting to do. One of the first ones will be with the new German Glitter that I bought. I can’t wait to share it with you.
Just have to give a pat on the back to my oldest son Adam who is a Master of Arms, Petty Officer in the US Navy, he was awarded the most outstanding sailor for the year of 2014 on his Naval base at Misawa-shi Japan. I am really proud of all of his hard work and for serving his country with honor and dignity, and for his sweet wife and children that back him 100%. I love and miss them tons.
Until later stay warm and happy.
(( Warm Hugs))
Merry Christmas to all my dear friends out there in blog land. This will be my last post until after the first of the year. It’s time to enjoy the family while school is out. I want to share a poem that I thought was cute and reminded me of when I was small, thinking that if I was out of my bed and not a sleep Santa would not come. Also I would like to show you the rest of my home that is ready for Christmas!
A squeak on the stairs.
Could Santa be here?
Better pull my blankets,
Up to my ears.
He comes down the chimney,
That’s how he gets in.
Santa uses magic,
To make himself thin.
I better keep still,
Can’t make a peep.
He doesn’t leave toys,
Unless you’re asleep.
My door just opened
Someone’s by my bed.
It wasn’t Santa after all,
Cause Mom just kissed my head.
Family Friend Poems
I love making Christmas stockings. The stockings hanging from the fireplace I made to match the pillows on the sofa. The single stocking I made from vintage table cloths.
I add little touches of Christmas all through the house, yup even the bathroom.
Here are some fun vignettes in the kitchen.
Ice skates hang ready at the back door.
The back door.
My vintage bread box is so fun to fill with Christmas decor.
This Santa sits on my work bench sewing away. LOL He is my favorite Santa.
Great rusty buckles, rings and old red thread make for a lovely vignette on my work bench, which is closed down for the season.
The presents are wrapped and under the tree. Now I will spend most of my time in the kitchen baking.
Here are some fun areas from the sitting room.
I got this lovely wooden star this year from a Etsy shop.
I hang star garlands around the house.
A wooden bowl full of antique ornaments.
If you want more inspiration get Jennifer Rizzo’s book Creatively Christmas it is amazing you will not want to put it down.
No matter how many pretties that we put into our home and know matter how many good smells come from the kitchen the reason for Christmas is because of the Jesus Christ and his great sacrifice that he went through for us. Because of this we celebrate Christmas.
Have a beautiful Christmas with love in your hearts. Merry Christmas!
With love, Jo
Thanx to all my dear friends!
