2014 in review

Hello dear friends I hope that your Christmas was joyous and full of family and friends. I am taking down Christmas and getting ready for the new year when my yearly report from WordPress came in and I want to share it with you. These are the results of my first 9 months of blogging results. Kind of like having a baby. LOL Thank you dear readers!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here's an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,500 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 58 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

I love it when you leave comments, let me know what you would like to see more of.

Have a very warm New Year! Jo

Thanx to all my dear friends that have helped me along the way!

Yummy Orange Rolls for Thanksgiving!

I hope that everyone had a great weekend. I have been browsing Pintrest this weekend and looking at many yummy, tempting recipes for a Thanksgiving feast. I was reminded of many of the great family dinners in the past and the dishes that were prepared by family members. I think my very favorite was the orange rolls that my Grandma Peters use to make. I have carried out this tradition with my family, they adore them.

I love to bake and for me baking these beautiful rolls is a joy. They have such a beautiful texture and lovely taste to them. I figure if this roll recipe came over from Denmark and used for years in my Grandmothers family it has stood the taste of time or I should say the test of time. LOL I will be making a double batch on Wednesday. I don’t have a picture to show you but I want to share this great family recipe with you before Thanksgiving.

Here it is:

Orange Rolls

Mix together 2 packages of yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1 teaspoon of sugar
Set aside for five minutes.

1 cup scaled milk
1/3 cup butter melted
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons salt
2 eggs beaten
4 to 5 cups of flour

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl well. Do not knead anymore than you have to. The dough will be sticky. Let raise in the bowl until double in bulk. When the dough has risen divide in half. Roll out dough like you are making cinnamon rolls. (Use as little flour as possible in kneading and rolling out this will make it fluffier).

Orange filling:

1 cube butter
1/2 c. sugar
grated orange zest from a large orange

Mix together in a small mixing bowl.

Spread 1/2 of the orange mixture on the rolled out dough.
Roll up the dough tightly (like a jelly roll).
Cut dough off in about 1 1/2″. (Or how ever you like)
Place in greased muffin pan. (You can use cookie sheets to).
Let rise until double in bulk.

Do the same to the other half of dough. I don’t usually make all of the rolls with the orange center, some of my family likes them without.

Bake at 375 until brown. (This was my Grandma’s way of saying to keep an eye on them).
It depends on the oven so watch them.

After they are baked I brush a little butter over the top. Or you can make a lite frosting to go on top with powered sugar and the orange that is left over. Make it really thin and spread it lightly.

I use this roll recipe for my cinnamon rolls to. I use it with many different shapes. Like crescents, Parker House . . .

Enjoy this lovely recipe,I assure you will be getting a lot of smiles when you do!

Life is LOVERLY when you are doing what you enjoy!

Lots More Fall Decor

Thank you for coming! The Fall days have been so beautiful! I hope that you are taking time to get out side and enjoy the beauty of this time of year. I just want to share a few more views of Fall with you, and some great finds.

BeFunky_mf nome 2.jpg

The Grandchildren and I made it to the Farmers Market near our home in Bountiful. We had so much fun picking out the perfect pumpkin. It’s incredible the colors that they come in now, BLUE, PINK, who would have thought?

Look at this pumpkin, the patina on it is beautiful, the Grand kids thought I crazy for wanting this one.

I also picked up this beautiful Mum which will last all Fall and then I can replant it.

So BEAUTIFUL!

Don’t you just love these Jack Be Little’s in white? They make a statement all their own.

BeFunky_m f tray.jpg

As we move into the house I want to share some of my recent finds and a couple of my creations. This tray is a large picture frame that I painted and lined it with blue fabric, then I turned it over and I use it to corral some of my counter things.

BeFunky_m f scale pumkins.jpg

I found this great scale on Etsy, the color and the patina are just perfect for my kitchen!

BeFunky_m f sm scale.jpg

I found this little scale on Etsy to, isn’t it cute? I did give it a little coat of paint.

Putting them side by side looks so great.

BeFunky_m f lace.jpg

Here is just a cute glass jar with lace, I think it is so pretty to look at.

BeFunky_m f birds.jpg

Here I found a great sugar silver sugar bowl. Some of the parts of it is sorta bluish I’m pretty sure that the silver isn’t as good, but I like the color of it. I found this piece at a thrift store in the area.

BeFunky_m f owl.jpg

This great owl got a new coat of paint. He was green but I like him much better this way.

Thanks to all of you that gave me advice on repainting my vintage picture frames, your advice was great and I will be trying them.

Have a beautiful weekend! Go do something you love with someone you love. Life is LOVERLY!

It’s Autumn Time!

Quote

They say that “Autumn carries more gold in one pocket than all of the other seasons.” I can sure feel Autumn here in the West, the mornings are so lovely with just a little touch of briskness, bright blue skies and the mountains are just starting to think about putting on a new Fall coat. Oh yes, I love Autumn. One of my favorite memories is that of laying in bed on an early Fall mornings with the smells of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves coming from the kitchen. I knew Mom was making something yummy and hardy. Those spices give a lovely heady smell, that brings me back to milder, slower Autumn days when I was a child. Lazily walking to the bus stop to go to school. Fond memories that I cherish. Continue reading
