Shabby Curtains

Hello! I have been really busy preparing Shabby Lane Cottage for Fall. There have actually been a few days when I could open up the windows and turn the air conditioner off and let the soft fresh air in. Now that’s heaven to me.  I wanted a more neutral look for Fall this year and that started with the window treatments. I saw an awesome pin on Pinterest the other day for some shabby curtains and I loved them so much that I decided to make my own for the kitchen. I do not generally go out and buy fabric for items like this it’s just too much money for me especially when I will change them out for the Christmas holidays, that’s why I got all excited about this pin I found. NOW, hold onto your hats because you will either love these curtains or hate them. So far I have gotten lots of compliments on them. Okay, here are the pics.

These charming curtains are totally made out of scraps that I had in my fabric box. Some pieces are from a lace table-cloth and one is from a feed bag, and one is a half-finished embroidery piece that I found years ago. I just layed out all of the pieces and sewed them together. The table runner is made out of odds and ends as well.

On the back door is a lovely window, I wanted to hide the levolors so I pinned a piece of lace table-cloth up with clothes pins. It is so pretty when the light shines through. I took these pics when it was dark because the sun floods through and you would not be able to see the curtain if I had taken it during the day.

My cottage is now ready for Fall and I will be showing more soon.

  1. JO, you are so clever. The curtains turned out lovely and look perfect in your sweet cottage. I really love the lace that you pinned up with clothespins. If we just put our minds to it we can come up with some really lovely ideas..Have a wonderful weekend..Judy

  2. How clever- I never would have thought of using scraps to make curtains! They came out just right and perfectly compliment your “shabby chic” décor! I , too, love the clothes pins to hang up the lacey door curtain. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your fall décor!
