Romantic Throw Pillows

I have never meet a throw pillow that I don’t like. This week I have been designing pillows for my little shop as well as my nest.

Using throw pillows is one of the easiest ways to make a change in your decor than any other way I know. They are easy and inexpensive. I have been designing some sweet pillows that I want to share with you today.

I have been wanting to design a pillow after the American flag. I am excited that this one turned out so great. This pillow is not only fun to look at but is fun to make. There is no end to the ways you can make it. It can be frilly or plain. I love the ruffles for the stripes and I put a Joey flower up in the corner as one big star. If I want a change all I have to do is turn the pillow over and ta da a new pillow.

All of these pillows are made out of vintage materials.

Here is a frillier version of the union jack. The back is like the center strip.

For those of you who are not into the romantic look this pillow is for you.

Burlap, muslin, and blue and white ticking look wonderful on this throw pillow. With the neutral colors it could be mixed even in a Romantic design.   Any of these pillows would make a wonderful gift.

Now I want to share something a little different with you.

Above is a feed sack hanging vase. I love the texture that it brings to the vignette.

I love creating something different and fun!

  1. I really adore the flag pillow and the idea of flipping a pillow over for a new look, perhaps a look that can adjust to the different seasons and holidays. I would love to just flip my Halloween/autumn pillows to Christmas pillows. I am thinking about getting a sewing machine to make such covers to fit my pillows, but then I realize it would probably take months or years to even get the sewing machine out of the box, and then I’d have to learn to use it! I love your creativity and spirit-glad to see you are feeling better.

  2. Hi Jo,
You have been busy sewing in a patriotic way. Fun pillows to adorn ones home. Hope you are fully recovered from the flu. Thanks for your sweet comment on my post, I always appreciate when you visit,
    Big hug to you,

  3. Oh my! These are wonderful. I love them all but I must say that my favorite is the American flag. So sweet and shabby with it’s soft colors. And your feed sack flower arrangement is as charming as can be. Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful week!

  4. I love your pillows, and I went and bought more vintage tablecloths to do some cushion seats and pillows. I will try and utilize some of your techinques and uses of vintage fabrics. Grins and thanks, Sandi

  5. I love your Union Jack pillows but I’m crazy about the feed sack “vase”! Will you share how you made it? I just found your blog so am going to try to find a place to sigh up for your posts.

    • Thank you Jean for your kind comment on the pillows. You will not believe how I came up with the feed sack vase. It is a pillow cover that I took off of one of my pillows and I thought I would just see what it looked like hanging with some fake flowers in it and it has made quite the stir. lol How funny is that? The cover is a by fold cover so it has it’s finished entrance for the pillow. I will have to share how to make it for you are not the only one asking. I think that’s it’s a hoot! Have a wonderful weekend. Jo

      • I’ll look forward to it. I have several grain sacks just folded up on a chair. I’d love to do this and put my Cotten boll stems in it!

  6. Love your idea of using the feed sack as a vase. So clever! Your pillows are gorgeous, it’s hard to choose a favorite, but I think I’d have to pick the burlap and muslin Union Jack. Thanks for sharing at Talk of the Town.
