Christmas Art

I have been doing a lot of crafting lately. Have you ever thought about doing Christmas art?

Well, to tell you the truth I haven’t until I got under way with my Christmas crafting.

Art blank

First I started with a blank canvas, the really cheap ones at Michael’s. Then I created a water color looking back drop with acrylic paints.

I hand painted the Christmas wording that I wanted to use on old paper back book pages, then I hand torn around the edges. These letters spell out my theme for Christmas this year.

I found pictures from books and magazines that I could use. I decided that I would make a collage of my favorite things. This was a good way to use up some bits and bobs that I have been saving for just such a project.

I placed everything on the canvas and using a glue stick glued down all of the paper pieces. Then I put a coat of mod podge over all the paper pieces. After it dried I glue gunned the bigger pieces on.

There she is all ready for Christmas.

One of my other Christmas art projects were doing some chalk board signs. I just painted these slates with black chalk board paint and hand painted the letters on. Then added some stars that I glittered with silver German glass glitter. I love glitter projects! Make sure you wear gloves when you use glass glitter it does cut!

As you can see my place is a mess! I have boxes and crafting projects every where! So please excuse my mess.

Art banner

Another project that I have been working on is a banner for my fireplace mantle. Here is a sneak peak of the ends of the banner.

I’m honoring Paris on the banner, and my thoughts and prayers are with all of France and those in the world that have suffered because of terrorist attacks.

It really is fun to be able to put some of my creativity into Christmas. I love this time of year and being in several Christmas tours and linky parties I have gone the extra mile. But, I enjoy doing it all. I will have more projects to share for Christmas. But you won’t get to see it all put together until December 9th! Then you can see where I have put the things that I have made. I haven’t purchased a thing for Christmas this year, I’m just up-doing and remaking a lot of decor. It gets old and tired after many years of use and it’s fun to see what I can recreate without spending money!

  1. I love doing collages and so glad that you put this post together. I just purchased a box of mixed media ‘stuff’ from e-bay and have to put it aside until I am done with this semester’s classes in a few weeks. I so love your inspirations and appreciate the time, effort and wonderful ideas you put into every post. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of your Christmas art!

  2. You have been one crazy busy lady. But it has paid off, your creations are amazing. That collage must have taken hours, ok at least for me it would have taken hours, but it’s absolutely beautiful. I must say, I’m completely smitten with your banner even after only seeing the one pendant. Did you crochet it? Looking forward to seeing all your treasures this season. (Just might need to invite myself to an actual personal visit).

  3. I’m with you in trying not to spend money on crafting supplies. I have quite enough ‘stuff’ in my stash to keep me going for a very long time. I have most of my Christmas creations done now and all I had to purchase was one ball of yarn. Bonus!

  4. Beautiful work Jo. The collage looks gorgeous. You have such wonderful creative talent just oozing lately. Have a great new week.

  5. I have to be frugal this year on crafting too…but then I always do! I only add a few new pieces and just “reinvent” my old. I’m doing and old fashioned Christmas this year, and making homemade. Love all you artwork!

  6. Hi Anne!! I hope you’re feeling better, a LOT better 🙂 I love your banner idea, and collage, and all you’ve shown us today….KEEP up the fantastic work/play!!

    • Vera, you are such a sweetie. You should see the mess I’m in right now, I have crafting and sewing every where, and I don’t have a separate room for doing these things so between my grands all into them and me taking down Fall decor the place looks like a bomb went off. lol But it should look better in about a week. I’ve got lots more to share. Have a wonderful week. Hugs, Jo

  7. Very beautiful work Joanne. I especially love the vintage hand crafted banner ends that you have made. I am looking forward to the whole piece. Thanks for sharing all your beautiful art with us. you are so talented.

  8. Jo, your Christmas art is absolutely gorgeous! I especially love your banner. So sweet to honor the people of Paris and the terrible suffering that went on. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
I tried to see your wreaths on etsy, but couldn’t see where.

  9. Your collage is beautiful and I can’t wait to see your post during Creating Christmas! I have made a few small gifts and a tree wall hanging out of old metal pieces, but that is it so far!

I love to read your comments. Thank you!
